Sailing offers a completely different way of discovering the world – not by roads or planes, but through seas and oceans. Over the years, Captain Giedrius has explored countless routes, from nearby Mediterranean waters to faraway Polynesian atolls. Each destination has its own character, rhythm, and mood.
The Mediterranean – Close, Safe, and Welcoming
“The Mediterranean feels like home to me. It’s where my sailing journey began. Croatia, Greece, Italy, Mallorca – they’re all perfect for both beginners and experienced sailors,” says Giedrius.
- Croatia. The Kornati islands are like a living national park on the water. Distances are short, marinas are well equipped, and all around lies calm and wild nature. “An ideal choice for a first trip.”
- Greece. Wild, windy, and full of surprises. “It feels like sailing through a history book – ancient ruins here, white chapels there. But you always have to be prepared, because conditions can change in an instant.”
- Italy. Elba island left a lasting impression. “Small harbors that feel like old fishing villages, where life flows slowly. These trips stay with you not only in photos but in tastes and smells.”
- Mallorca. The perfect escape from civilization. “Once we anchored in a secluded bay – no signal, no noise. Just us, the stars, and the silence of the sea. Sometimes moments like that matter more than any route.”
Further Afield – Exotic and Transformative
When ordinary holidays aren’t enough, Giedrius heads for distant islands. They demand more preparation but reward with unforgettable experiences.
- Caribbean. “Like a postcard, but with character. Palms, beaches, turquoise waters – it all looks perfect. But sailing here is trickier: tides, currents, few shelters from bad weather. Still, every morning coffee on deck feels like time has stopped.”
- Polynesia. A true dream, requiring a long journey but worth every mile. “You sail between atolls, dolphins swim alongside, and locals welcome you with smiles. Life flows slower, deeper, softer here – it’s the kind of trip that changes a person.”
- Thailand. A perfect winter escape. “Coral reefs, colorful fish, crystal-clear water, and the famous warmth of Thai hospitality. Everything here feels vivid and real.”
Lithuania – For First Tries or Short Escapes
“The Baltic Sea isn’t always friendly, but the Curonian Lagoon is perfect for a first attempt,” says Giedrius. “From Dreverna, you can sail to Juodkrantė or Nida, stop for a break, and in just one day experience a lot. You’ll quickly find out if the water is your element.”
A Final Piece of Advice
“You don’t need to fly to Polynesia right away,” Giedrius reminds. “The most important thing is to know yourself. Some people need peace, others crave wind and waves. Sometimes the best journey is not the one farthest on the map, but the one closest to your heart.”
